Senior Level Interior Designer (B+H)

B+H is currently looking for a Senior Level Interior Designer with experience in the Corporate and Commercial sector to join our growing Corporate Interior Design Team.

Reporting to the Director, Interior Design and/or Principal, Interior Design the Senior Interior Designer is responsible for overseeing the design process.  The Senior Designer also has supervisory responsibilities with respect to directing, training and mentoring intermediate and junior designers.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • With input from the Director and/or Principal, oversee the interior design process and deliverables, establish project direction and work within project budgets and schedules
  • Meet with clients to analyze their goals, needs and resources
  • Under minimal supervision manage multiple projects and a team of intermediate and junior designers; delegate and assign tasks appropriately
  • Understand the requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes and other technical aspects; knowledgeable in the areas of design, drawing and details, finishes and building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing, contract administration and business practices
  • Prepare and administer construction documents consisting of plans, elevations, details and specifications, to illustrate non-structural and/or non-seismic partition layouts; power and communications locations reflected ceiling and lighting plans; materials, products and finishes; and furniture selection, specifications and layouts
  • Administer contract documents, bids and negotiations as the client’s consultant; coordinate and collaborate with other design professionals who may be retained to provide consulting services, including but not limited to architects, structural, mechanical and electrical engineers and various specialty consultants
  • Assist with permit tender applications as required
  • Complete construction administration from tender through project close out
  • Work to a project fee and client budget
  • Foster and cultivate good client relationships
  • Mentorand train intermediate and junior designers

Other responsibilities

  • Provide back-up assistance to other members of the Interior Design group as well as the Architecture group
  • Support senior management in the development of new business opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements

  • 7-10 years’ experience as an Interior Designer; Corporate Commercial experience required
  • Understand the design process and fully comprehend the client’s needs and goals
  • Excellent leadership skills to train and supervise intermediate and junior designers
  • Well-developed time management and project management skills required to undertake multiple projects
  • Professional, client service oriented and positive representative of the firm
  • Exercise sound judgment; proactive and anticipate client needs; effectively identify problem areas and negotiate and mediate when necessary to resolve issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Software/Technology: AutoCAD 2010, Sketchup knowledge preferred, Microsoft Office 2010 (including Excel), Power Point, InDesign, Photoshop
  • Understand  BC Building Code
  • Degree or Diploma in Interior Design
  • Member of IDIBC an asset
  • Obtained or considering LEED CI certification or AP accreditation
  • NCIDQ certification

Intern Architect / Interior Designer / Architectural Technologist (Gair Williamson Architects)

We are seeking an intern architect, interior designer, or architectural technologist to assist with various design projects.  We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a passion for architecture and urban design.  We require:

  • Strong graphic skills with  working knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and computer modeling software.  Preference will be given to those with ability in Rhino, Sketchup, Vray, or other similar softwares.
  • An ability to efficiently meet deadlines with excellent organizational/ interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of or a desire to understand the building process/ construction and the craft of building.
  • A working knowledge of various MS office programs, (word, excel, etc.)
  • A proficiency in English, both written and oral.
  • Experience with working with the VBBL and BCBC.
