Senior Project Architect – Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use

We have an opportunity in our Vancouver office for a Senior Project Architect to join our Commercial team.  In this role, you will work with Kasian’s global and local leadership team to position the Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use Micro Sectors for success as it pertains to business development and new projects, content development, project delivery, talent capacity, and financial success.

In this role, you will have a leadership role in the following areas:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Together with other leaders, develop a short and long-term strategy for the Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use Micro Sectors to deliver results aligned with Kasian operational goals
  • Work directly with the Executive Team, Vice-President Business Development, Vice-President Commercial, and Vancouver Managing Principal to grow Kasian’s Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use market share by securing new projects in Vancouver, throughout British Columbia, and nationally
  • Work collaboratively with Micro Sector Leaders in other cities to advance the Firm’s initiatives with respect to Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use projects
  • Set and drive budgeting, sales targets, and net fee targets which will ultimately lead to the Micro Sectors’ success

Business Development 

  • Drive a business development strategy for the Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use Micro Sectors in the Vancouver office
  • Liaise with relevant Micro Sector Leaders in other locations to ensure coordination and information flow
  • Oversee the proposal process for the Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use Micro Sectors starting from go/no-go decision, selection of team members, and proposal submissions
  • Utilize personal knowledge, reputation, contacts, and relationships within the developer community to increase Kasian’s Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use Micro Sector business

Project Management

  • Execute the “intent” of the project promotionally, design-wise, and financially
  • Oversee and lead projects by ensuring project teams follow standard Kasian processes and procedures and deliver on time, on schedule, on budget
  • Accountable for the quality of service and profitability on assigned projects; monitor projects and implement corrective action to ensure continuity and profitability
  • Address and resolve project performance issues including troubleshooting, red flags, budget and work plan reviews
  • Participate in key sub-consultant and specialty consultant selection
  • Client liaison and management: ensure effective communication and coordination between all parties, resolve disputes and client-related conflicts, review and approve client invoices, interact and negotiate with client
  • Maintain quality relationships with clients to understand needs and recognize new business opportunities

Team Leadership

  • Ensure resource capabilities for Retail, Residential, and Mixed-Use projects are being met
  • Assess talent and determine “gaps” from both missing skillsets for recruiting needs or additional training needs
  • Work with Performance Managers and Team Leaders to ensure talent development strategies are in place
  • Serve as an internal mentor

Here’s what you bring to Kasian:

  • A recognized degree in architecture coupled with a minimum of 12 years of experience
  • AIBC registration, oo eligible to be registered in the province of British Columbia. Registration in another Canadian province
  • Experience leading projects of at least $20m (construction value) with minimal supervision
  • An innovative and forward-thinking approach to design and a natural curiosity for staying current of new trends, materials, and construction methods
  • Track record of leading high-performance teams
  • Strong technical knowledge and technical drawing experience in Revit
  • Excellent graphic communication and presentation skills
  • An ability to add value to all stages of project delivery
