The Plan Reviewer works in the Building Approvals Department, to independently perform work of mid-level complexity in reviewing building plans to ensure compliance with building codes, City of Richmond bylaws, related regulations and directives as communicated by Manager, Plan Review. The Plan Reviewer receives day-to-day support and guidance from, as well as reports operational needs to Coordinator of Permits and Plan Review.  The Plan Reviewer provides regular performance reports to the Manager, Plan Review.

Examples of key work activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing plans and related documents for commercial, industrial and residential developments to ensure compliance with building codes, bylaws and related regulations and technical standards.
  • Maintain accurate records on permits, plan reviews and correspondence.
  • Meet with developers, architects, engineers, owners, etc., for preliminary discussions.
  • Clarify code interpretations pertaining to building permit applications.
  • Prepare review comments outlining modifications and other actions necessary to achieve compliance.

Required Education & Experience:
Graduation from a two (2) year Diploma program in Building Technology from an Institute of Technology is required or a related Bachelor’s Degree. BIM Coordinator

We are looking to fill a BIM Coordinator position in the office. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of REVIT and experience coordinating the production and management of digital architectural models. The BIM Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining multiple BIM models and associated BIM support documents to ensure the performance and quality levels meet the specific project BIM requirements and HPA BIM Standards. The BIM Coordinator provides technical support to the project teams and reports directly to the BIM Manager. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mixed use commercial/residential, and market & nonmarket housing.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Advanced knowledge of and proven practical background in Autodesk Revit and related BIM software.
  • Solid understanding of legacy BIM/CAD applications and practices, particularly AutoCAD.

Scott Architecture – Architectural Technologist / Intern Architect

Scott Architecture is a small architectural firm located in downtown Victoria, specializing mainly in schools, childcare facilities, and other institutional work.

We are looking for a junior or intermediate Architectural Technologist or Intern Architect to assist in design development and working drawings as well as contract administration.

The work could be on a contract basis, or could be a salaried position, based on the successful applicant’s preference.

A good working knowledge of Autocad is essential. The successful applicant should also be familiar with concrete and steel construction as well as wood frame, should feel comfortable helping to produce a complete set of working drawings including construction details, and should have some familiarity with contract administration. A working knowledge of Sketch Up would also be a plus.

Position Requirements
Reporting to the Design Principal and/or the Senior Interior Designer, the Intermediate Interior Designer is responsible for planning and preparing interior design concepts.

 Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Working closely with a Senior Interior Designer to formulate preliminary space plans and produce 2D and 3D design concepts that are functional, within budget and aesthetically pleasing.
  • Understand the structural requirements of the plans, life safety issues, building codes and other technical aspects.
  • Communicate with clients, consultants and contractors as directed by the Senior Designer.
  • Understand and have working knowledge of materials and products that will be used to create and furnish the space and how texture, colour, lighting and other factors combine and interact to make a space.
  • Prepare working drawings and assist with specifications for interior construction, space planning, materials, finishes, furniture, furnishings, fixtures, equipment and millwork; create sample boards; knowledgeable in the areas of building construction, building materials, specifications, codes, technical drawing and business practices.
  • Collaborate with other consultants who offer professional services in the technical areas of mechanical, electrical and structural design as well as any specialty consultants as directed by Senior Designer.
  • Administer contract documents, bids and negotiations as the client’s consultant as directed by Senior Designer.
  • Prepare permit and tender documents.
  • Carry out construction administration under supervision of Senior Designer.
  • Understanding of project fee and client budget.
  • Oversee, train and direct junior interior designers on the team.

 Other Responsibilities

  • Provide back-up assistance to other members of the Interior Design group as well as the Architecture group
  • Other duties as assigned

 Position Requirements

  • At least 4 years’ experience as an Interior Designer in commercial and corporate design projects.
  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills required to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Software/Technology: AutoCAD 2017, 3D Software knowledge preferred (SketchUp or 3DMax), REVIT experience a definite asset
  • Microsoft Office 2010 (including Excel), Presentation Software (PowerPoint and/or Photoshop)
  • Good working knowledge of BC Building Code
  • Degree or Diploma in Interior Design from an accredited university or college
  • Intern member of provincial interior design professional organization an asset
  • Working toward NCDIQ
  • Obtained or considering WELL certification, LEED CI certification or AP accreditation an asset
