Your Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Architectural Technologist degree from an accredited program.
  • 5-10 years’ experience
  • Strong understanding of building technology with a thorough understanding of construction detailing, working drawings and contract administration.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD.
  • Revit and/or Sketch-up, 3D modelling proficiency an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of the Transportation Architecture Principal is for strategic vision, leadership, inspiration, quality assurance, and financial success of the Western Canada Transportation Architecture practice. The Position:

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Technologist or Intermediate Architect with substantial experience in Contract Administration.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with experience in contract documentation who has a passion for the later stages of a project focusing on field work and contract administration. We require a person with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong leadership skills and an ability to work on a team under the direction of Senior Staff on a variety of project types. The individual in this role will ideally be able to work on all phases of a project, particularly construction drawings and contract administration, carrying through to the completion of construction. During the Contract Administration phase, you will be directly responsible for comprehensive and timely administration of all project related documentation and information liaising directly with the contractor, the client and the project manager.


Responsibilities Include:
• Construction administration functions on site and in office
• Establish and maintain effective and professional liaisons with clients, contractors and authorities having jurisdiction.
• Be the supporting contact to the project manager and General Contractor during construction phase until completion.
• Conduct on-site visits to review compliance with contract documents and all required municipal and provincial requirements; observe and report on work in progress; prepare and issue Field Reviews, Site Instructions and Certificates of Payment.

• Support senior staff with internal and external communications throughout the working drawing and construction process

• Produce and distribute supplemental drawings, specifications and interpretations in response to requests for clarification by contractors/owners
• Provide review and circulation of  shop drawings and RFIs,, , prepare and review Change Orders, review applications for payment and manage project closeout services as required
• Maintain up-to-date project records.
• Ensure quality and design intent through construction phase.
• Exercise independent judgement and analysis of significant issues and find a resolution.

POSITION SUMMARY

Project management and administration:

Job Description:
The Project Architect has exceptional people and communication skills and will be able to independently lead a project from the pursuit stage through construction completion and ongoing client maintenance. They will be responsible to produce a high-quality product by effectively managing the design process, development of contract documents and services during construction. They will be responsible for developing the teaming strategy, managing the project scope of work, maintaining a project schedule, and monitoring financial success of the project. They will be responsible for assuring design and technical excellence and working within a collaborative framework expressed through the 6 cornerstones of the MTA practice.

They will keep the Principal In Charge informed of all project matters and keep their team members informed of project objectives, milestone dates and product deliverables. They will manage client needs and expectations and ensure the product MTA produces full fills the client objectives.

We are actively hiring out of both our studios, based out of Calgary and/or Edmonton. The ideal candidate must be registered or eligible to register with the AIBC and looking to relocated to Alberta.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop project criteria, scope of services, detailed work plans, drawing lists, schedules, and resource (staff, technical, budget) requirements over the project lifecycle.
• Demonstrates thorough understanding of project management process including scope, budgets and schedule.
• Exercises maturity in architectural judgment in anticipating and solving complexities, determining program objectives and requirements.
• Stays current with evolving building technology and systems applicable to the design process.
• Performs design review of design documents on several concurrent projects.
• Registration with provincial regulatory board an asset
• Capable of providing leadership in design
• High level of creativity, innovative thinking and problem solving
• Excellent sketching and/or computer skills and conceptual design skills

QUALIFICATIONS
• The Project Architect will have 8+ years progressive experience and be eligible for registration with AAA.
• LEED ® AP Preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in leading of teams in the completion of architectural projects.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of building materials, detailing, construction techniques, building systems selection, related engineering principles, sustainability strategies and building codes.
• Demonstrated practical knowledge of space programming and functional adjacencies.
• Demonstrated awareness of latest industry wide initiatives, technologies, and processes in the A/E/C community.
• Detailed knowledge of applicable building codes and by-laws.
• Strong technical background in Revit.
